ODE TO ALICE

She was a dog of soft black fur,
That has adoring eyes, black and deep,
Like the hour of dusk that I cherish,
When stars shine with a blue luster.

The world shall know that you were special,
And you were loved by a caring family,
For your thin and high growl, bestial
And loud, was a welcome warning.

We all missed you, simple and kind,
And the little boys and girls in area mild,
Will miss your appetite and balmy sight,
That makes us look back and smile.
