THE PARABLE OF OUR LIVES

Alas! I see the parable of our lives
In what we want, but cannot have.
We see a future centered around us,
But giv'n man a chance at choosing his fate;
The world as it is may cease to be,
For the power is too great for man to bear;
A burden too heavy to carry.

Alas! I see the parable of our lives
In our hands; given life before our eyes;
The moment we decided to take that step,
And take that decision between choices,
That life proffers and thrust between our fingers
To do as our conscience urges us,
For we are no more children to be forced,
But adults with the will to choose rightly.

Alas! I see the parable of our lives
In the wrinkles of our skin; in our eyes,
That reveals of the day of our youth
When life was full of possibilities,
And adulthood seems so far away,
When the urge to explore refuses to be quenched.

Alas! I see the parable of our lives,
In the lives we live and breathe;
In the results of our forgone choices;
In the tears that flows freely in secret,
And in the lesson learnt and correction made.
